The 'Mont Blanc' cultivar of Senecio haworthii, also known by the common names Cocoon Plant or Woolly Senecio, is a striking succulent prized for its unique, almost entirely white, felt-like foliage. This silvery appearance comes from a dense covering of fine white hairs that protect the plant's succulent leaves from intense sunlight.

  • Appearance: Features tightly stacked, cylindrical leaves growing in vertical, spiral-like columns, distinguished by their silvery-white, fuzzy, felt-like texture.
  • Growth Habit: It's an upright, compact succulent, reaching around 30 cm tall at maturity.
  • Flowering: Produces small, yellow, brush-shaped flowers in the summer.
  • Drought Tolerance: Extremely drought tolerant due to its specialised leaf coating, making it an easy-care plant.

  • Light: Thrives in full sun or bright, indirect light.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly only when the soil has completely dried out. In winter, water sparingly, about once every two months. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
  • Soil: Requires well-draining soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix. Adding grit or perlite can further improve drainage.
  • Fertilising: Feed with a diluted, low-nitrogen succulent fertiliser during the growing season (spring and summer).
  • Temperature: Tolerates short frosts down to -6°C if kept dry, but requires frost-free conditions for overwintering in cooler climates.
  • Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years using a cactus and succulent compost.

  • Origin: Native to the Little Karroo region of South Africa.
  • Toxicity: It is considered toxic if ingested, so it's advisable to keep it out of reach of pets and children.

This striking succulent is a popular choice for rock gardens, containers, and sunny windowsills, bringing a unique visual and tactile element to any plant collection.

This plant is supplied in a 10.5cm pot and the plant is approximately 18cm tall, including the pot.
