The Baron von Solemacher alpine strawberry is an antique German variety that produces dainty clusters of deep red, sweet and juicy berries, reaching up to 25 mm in diameter. Although we aren’t certain who the Baron was, this variety was first offered by the German seed merchant F.C. Heinemann in 1935.

Alpine strawberries are hardy perennial plants that will flower and fruit from late spring until the first frosts. This is also an early-fruiting variety, with the first berries sometimes appearing as quickly as three months after sowing.

These fragrant little strawberries make a delightful addition to pastries, though they are just as enjoyable eaten fresh. Loved by both young and old, their sweetness and heady aroma can fill a room with the unmistakable scent of summer.
