The popularity of alpine strawberries lies in their sweet, juicy, old-fashioned flavour. Most people picture them in their familiar bright red, but you may be surprised to discover that there is also a pale yellow–creamy white form.
 
White strawberries were first discovered as a natural mutation in the wild woods east of Grenoble in the lower Alps. They were later selected for their unusual skin colour while retaining the same delicious sweetness, often with subtle tropical notes of guava and pineapple.
 
‘White Soul’ is one of these improved varieties. Whether eaten fresh or cooked, they offer the same joy as their red cousins - and a mixture of red and white berries makes a particularly striking and delicious display.
