An heirloom favourite, Bull’s Blood beetroot dates back to the 19th century and originates from the French variety Crapaudine, believed to be one of the oldest beet varieties ever cultivated.
 
Grown since Victorian times for both its beauty and flavour, it features striking deep burgundy foliage - perfect for adding rich colour to borders, kitchen gardens, and cottage-style planting schemes.
This versatile variety can be harvested in multiple ways: pick the young leaves for vibrant mixed salads, or allow the roots to mature for roasting and juicing. The leaves can also be lightly steamed, much like spinach.
 
Although typically a cool-season crop, Bull’s Blood is relatively heat tolerant, making it suitable for a wide range of growing conditions throughout the season.
