A bold and cheerful native annual, Corn Marigold brings vibrant golden-yellow blooms to wildflower meadows and planting schemes, instantly lifting and brightening any space.

Also known as golden cornflower or yellow daisy, this traditional arable wildflower was once a familiar sight in Britain’s cornfields. Remarkably resilient, it thrives in poor soils, tolerates dry conditions, and requires very little attention - making it an easy, reliable choice for low-maintenance planting.

Fast to establish and generous in flower, Corn Marigold is highly attractive to pollinators, providing a rich source of nectar for bees and butterflies throughout the summer months. It pairs beautifully with poppies and cornflowers for a classic, naturalistic meadow look.

  • Cheap and Easy Method:

Corn Marigold loves the carefree approach. Clear an area of weeds and rake the soil to a fine tilth. Scatter the seeds evenly over the surface, then lightly rake again. No need to bury them too deep—these golden beauties love sun exposure.

    More Involved Method:

If you’re dealing with persistent weeds, lay down a terram membrane, add a layer of soil, and sow your Corn Marigold seeds on top. Press them in gently to improve germination rates and reduce unwanted competition.

    When to Plant:

Corn Marigold seeds can be sown in spring (March to May) for summer blooms or early autumn (September to October) for flowering the following year.

    Where to Plant:

Corn Marigold thrives in open, sunny spaces with light, well-drained soil. It doesn’t need rich soil—in fact, it prefers nutrient-poor areas and will self-seed for future displays.

    Watering Schedule:

Water lightly but regularly until seedlings establish. Once growing, Corn Marigold hates soggy feet—avoid overwatering and let nature take care of it.

    Blooming Period:

Expect bold, golden blooms from June to September, creating a dazzling display of sunshine in your garden.

    Expected Plant Height:

Corn Marigold typically grows 30 cm to 50 cm tall, perfect for adding a burst of colour to borders, meadows, or mixed wildflower plantings.
