About The Cottage Garden Grow Kit
Cottage gardens are a hallmark of British gardening, featuring densely packed flower beds filled with a variety of decorative plants, vegetables, herbs, and climbing plants. In these gardens, every space is used for growing, whether it's through the use of paths to access plants or the utilisation of arches and structures to maximise vertical space.
The kit includes 6 seed packets, with peat-free soil discs and plant labels
- Common Spearmint for evening tea rituals
- Cosmos Fizzy Pink for bright blooms
- Cornflower Blue to bring the pollinators
- Lavender Munstead Dwarf to add calming scents
- Lupin Noble Maiden for soft spires of pure white
- Radish French Breakfast for salads in the garden
In The Records
The cottage garden, originally a humble and practical space, underwent a transformation in the nineteenth century as flowers became a more dominant feature within the natural framework. Early advocates of the style, such as William Robinson, saw the artistic merits of the cottage garden and declared it to be even more beautiful than the gentleman's garden. Robinson believed that the absence of a pretentious plan allowed the flowers to tell their story and capture the heart. Gertrude Jekyll shared this sentiment and noted that even the smallest cottage garden had something new to offer, such as the beautiful combination of two plants or a pretty mixed tangle of creepers. She also noted that plants typically thought to thrive against a south wall could thrive against an east wall instead. In this regard, there are no rules when it comes to a cottage garden, and this should be embraced.
