Crassula ovata 'Coral' also known as the Coral Jade Plant or Gollum Jade, is a unique and popular succulent known for its distinctive appearance.

  • Appearance: It has elongated, tubular, mid-green leaves that reach upwards, resembling fingers or coral. When exposed to sufficient sunlight, the tips of the leaves turn red, enhancing its coral-like look.
  • Growth Habit: This cultivar forms a small, branched shrub that can grow into a substantial, tree-like form over time. Older branches develop a woody appearance with peeling bark.
  • Flowering: When mature, it produces small, star-shaped flowers, typically white or pink, in clusters during the winter.
  • Light Needs: Crassula ovata 'Coral' thrives in bright light, preferably with some direct sun exposure to bring out the red colouring at the leaf tips. It needs approximately 4 to 6 hours of bright light daily.
  • Watering: Like other Jade plants, it's drought-tolerant and requires deep watering only when the soil is completely dry. It's important to reduce watering during the colder, dormant months.
  • Soil: It prefers well-drained, sandy, or gritty potting compost.
  • Care: This is a low-maintenance succulent, making it suitable for beginners.
  • Propagation: It can be propagated from leaves or stem cuttings.
  • Location: It makes an excellent indoor plant, especially near a sunny window, or a feature plant for a sunny windowsill or desk. In warmer climates, it can also be grown outdoors in full sun to partial shade.
  • Feng Shui: Some sources suggest placing Crassula in the southeast or wealth sector of a home or office, or near the door or cash register, to increase good finances. Placing it in the east sector is said to bring health luck.
  • Toxicity: While some sources claim that Jade plants are toxic to animals and mildly toxic to humans, this is unproven.

Overall, Crassula ovata 'Coral' is an attractive and easy-to-care-for succulent that adds a unique touch to any indoor or outdoor plant collection.

      Hi there.

If you ever have a question or need help identifying a plant before leaving a review, please do drop us an email at either caryl@shellonearth.co.uk or shop@shellonearth.co.uk - that way we can reply directly and assist you properly. The review section is designed for customers to share their experiences with the product rather than for general enquiries.

To clarify, Crassula ‘Hobbit’ and Crassula ‘Coral’ are two slightly different jade plant varieties. ‘Hobbit’ has shorter, thicker leaves that curve inward at the tips, while ‘Coral’ has longer, more tubular leaves that resemble sea coral. Both are beautiful, slow-growing succulents with red or pink tints on the leaf tips when grown in good light.

      I hope that helps.

      Thanks,

      Caryl.
