Recycled, crushed, washed and dried whelk shells in a fully compostable paper bag.
This new 18 Litre bag contains around 18-20kg of shells, and is ideal for garden borders, beds, rockeries or as an outdoor plant pot topper.
The crushed shells can also be used for drainage or added to soil for aeration.
It also works well as mulch and as a gentle, natural slug deterrent when a generous layer is added around the base of plants.
Why not add on one of our Potting Cups -The perfect tool for scooping and decanting shells and other substrates.

I love my shells! They were a treat for myself and Woh what a difference to the light in my garden! The price calculator made the ordering so simple, the deals made my order more affordable and the bags, well they are art! Perfect product from a friendly innovative business that i hope gets all the promotion, publicity and praise it deserves. You made a new gardener try something bold and transformed my boarder with texture and brightness! My turtle loves it to!
It’s been a couple of years now when I first found Shell on Earth. Since then Ive bought a couple of the bigger bags every year. Either at a garden nursery (mid wales) or online. I use it primarily for my pots or in the past in storm candle holders as a decoration. I love seeing it in my pots and they definitely help with water retention. 5star. I love the ethics of the company and they’re based in my home country of Wales 🏴
Love this product. Just ordered 2 more large bags at 2 for £30. Makes pots look amazing. I ordered one bag to try and had used it within an hour of it being delivered. I did spread it generously though. I did 12 pots with one large bag.
My second purchase, and my patio looks much better for it. I have topped my planters, and added it to the slab edges. Fabulous stuff.
I purchased this for my strawberry beds.
I’ve used straw as mulch before, to keep down the weeds, hold in heat at night and stop fruit going rotten when the soil gets wet, however the slugs love to hide in it. I’m hoping the whelk shells will accomplish the same goals, as well as deterring slugs, holding in moisture and reflecting a bit of light. It’s a big ask, but I’m happy so far. I’m hoping when the plants need replacing, I’ll be able to dig in the shells for better aeration and drainage.
