Echeveria 'Madiba' is a captivating succulent, renowned for its striking rosette form and distinctive ruffled leaves. It is a hybrid cultivar, reportedly originating from Spain or bred by Korean gardeners. The name 'Madiba' honors Nelson Mandela, whose clan name was also Madiba.

  • Leaves: Broad, fleshy leaves that are typically dusty green to soft purple.
  • Edges: Heavily frilled and undulating leaf edges. Younger plants may have straighter margins, with the waviness becoming more pronounced with maturity.
  • Colour: Often displays pink tones in bright light, and can develop shades of orange when exposed to bright sunlight.
  • Farina: While it has a light white powdery coating (farina), the pastel colors are not primarily due to it.
  • Rosette: Forms a solitary rosette that can reach up to 30 cm in diameter.

  • This succulent thrives in bright, indirect light to full sun but should be protected from harsh midday sun. It is drought-tolerant, requiring infrequent watering using the "soak and dry" method, and even less during winter.
  • Well-draining soil, such as a cactus and succulent mix amended with sand or perlite, is essential.
  • Fertilise monthly in spring and summer with a diluted succulent fertilizer, but avoid fertilizing in autumn and winter.
  • Ideal temperatures are between 18–26°C; avoid temperatures below 5°C and cold drafts.
  • It prefers low humidity and good air circulation.
  • The plant is non-toxic to pets and humans.
  • Pruning is not necessary; simply remove dead foliage.
  • Repotting is recommended every 2–3 years or when the plant outgrows its container.
  • Propagation is primarily done through cuttings, including leaf cuttings or offsets.

This plant is supplied in an 11cm pot and the plant is approximately 10-15cm tall, including the pot.
