The 'Red Stripe' is a popular cultivar of Maranta leuconeura, also known as the Prayer Plant. It's cherished for its stunning, ornamental foliage
- Striking Foliage: Oval-shaped, dark green leaves with a feathery, bright green central pattern and eye-catching crimson red veins arranged in a uniform, herringbone-like pattern.
- Prayer-like Movement (Nyctinasty): The leaves fold together at night and reopen in the morning, resembling hands in prayer.
- Compact Size: Makes it ideal for smaller spaces, desktops, or as a gift.
- Air Purifying Benefits: Filters toxins and improves air quality.
- Pet-Friendly: Non-toxic to children and animals.
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some shade. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves. A spot near a north or east-facing window is ideal.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top 2-3cm of soil feels dry. Use filtered, distilled, or rainwater as Marantas are sensitive to chemicals in tap water. Water less frequently in winter.
- Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (around 60-80%). Mist daily or use a pebble tray or humidifier to increase humidity. Brown leaf tips indicate insufficient humidity.
- Temperature: Prefers average to warm temperatures, ideally between 18-24°C (60-80°F). Avoid temperatures below 15°C (50°F) and cold drafts.
- Soil: Requires well-draining, loamy, and slightly acidic soil (pH 6.0-6.5). A standard houseplant potting mix with added perlite, peat moss, or coco coir is suitable. Ensure the pot has good drainage.
- Fertilising: Feed every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, diluted water-soluble fertilizer. Avoid over-fertilising.
- Pruning: Prune to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Prune in spring or autumn, cutting just above a leaf node. Remove any dead or damaged leaves.
- Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years in spring, or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a pot 2 inches larger than the previous one.
- Yellow leaves: Can be caused by improper watering (both over and under-watering).
- Brown or crispy leaves: Typically indicates low humidity.
- Root rot: Can occur in poorly draining soil or due to overwatering.
- Pests: May be susceptible to spider mites, aphids, thrips, and mealybugs.
By following these care guidelines, your Maranta leuconeura 'Red Stripe' can thrive and bring its unique beauty to your home or office.
This plant is supplied in a 6cm pot and the plant is approximately 15cm tall, including the pot.

In U.K. these are commonly called prayer plants.
They are lovely plants but do not like being reported and are very difficult to keep them going.
I have not bought from this company before. So I will try another prayer plants but and hope and pray it will stay alive more than 1 yr this time.
