Sowing:
Sow directly outdoors from March to July in shallow drills around 1cm deep. Sow thinly and cover lightly with fine soil.

Germination:
Typically takes 10–20 days. Keep soil consistently moist during this time.

Thinning:
Thin seedlings gradually to around 5–8cm apart to allow roots to develop fully.

Position:
Prefers a sunny, open position.

Soil:
Best grown in light, stone-free, well-drained soil to prevent misshapen roots.

Care:
Water regularly, especially in dry spells. Avoid disturbing roots when thinning to reduce the risk of carrot fly.

Harvesting

Harvest from June to October, depending on sowing time. Lift when roots reach a good size - smaller carrots can be harvested earlier for a sweeter, more tender crop.

Top tip

Sow little and often for a continuous harvest, and consider covering with fleece to help protect against carrot fly.
