(Trifolium pratense) Also known as: Wild Clover

A true multitasker in the garden, Red Clover is as useful as it is beautiful.

Its soft, rounded flower heads in shades of rosy pink to deep magenta bring a gentle pop of colour from late spring through summer, while also acting as a magnet for bees and pollinators.

But Red Clover isn’t just about looks - it’s well known for improving soil health by naturally fixing nitrogen, making it a fantastic choice for enriching tired soil and supporting surrounding plants.

Perfect for wildflower meadows, borders or as part of a more functional planting scheme, it brings both beauty and purpose to your space.

  • A Simple, Natural Method

For an easy approach, scatter seeds directly onto prepared soil.

Clear weeds and debris, lightly rake the surface, then broadcast seeds evenly. Gently rake again or press the seeds in to ensure good soil contact.

This method works well for larger areas and naturalistic planting.

    For More Reliable Results

If you’re working with more challenging ground:

    • Clear the area thoroughly
    • Suppress weeds (membrane if needed)
    • Add a layer of suitable soil if required
    • Sow seeds evenly and lightly press in

This gives seeds the best chance to establish strongly.

    Alternative Method

    Seed Trays & Transplanting
Start seeds in trays or small pots, then transplant once established. Ideal for more controlled planting or smaller spaces.
