Pachyveria 'Rosy Crow' is a captivating succulent hybrid resulting from a cross between Pachyphytum and Echeveria species. This beautiful plant does not occur naturally in the wild and was developed through selective breeding.
- Appearance: This low-growing succulent forms rosettes of thick, fleshy leaves. The leaves are primarily green with pink tips, and with sufficient sunlight exposure, they develop a more intense pink colour, often displaying lilac to iridescent pink hues in high UV levels.
- Size: Pachyveria 'Rosy Crow' can reach a height of up to 15 centimeters.
- Flowering: It blooms annually, producing clusters of yellow flowers on long stems.
- Hardiness: It is considered hardy and can tolerate outdoor temperatures down to -3.9°C (25°F). For outdoor growing in the UK, it is best suited for low-lying coastal areas or needs winter protection if grown elsewhere.
- Propagation: Pachyveria 'Rosy Crow' can be propagated through leaf cuttings or stem cuttings. Offsets can also be separated and replanted.
- Light: Provide at least six hours of direct sunlight daily, offering shade during the hottest part of the day. When grown indoors, it benefits from bright, sunny windows. Insufficient light can lead to etiolation (stretching).
- Watering: Water sparingly. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Some sources recommend watering only when the leaves appear visibly wrinkled or deflated. It's crucial to avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
- Soil: Use well-draining soil designed for succulents and cacti.
- Fertilising: Fertilise sparingly during the growing season (typically spring and summer) with a diluted succulent and cacti food.
- Pests and Diseases: While generally not prone to pests, inspect regularly for mealybugs, aphids, and succulent mites. Overwatering is the most common cause of issues, leading to rot.
- Maintenance: Remove any dead leaves from the bottom of the plant to deter pests. Repotting is generally needed every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. When repotting, use a container that's only one size larger than the current pot.
Pachyveria 'Rosy Crow' is well-suited for indoor cultivation on bright windowsills or under grow lights. Outdoors, it can be used as a ground cover, in rock gardens, or xeriscapes. It is considered non-toxic to pets and young children, although caution is advised as nursery-bought plants may have been treated with biocides.
This plant is supplied in a 10.5cm pot and the plant is approximately 12cm tall, including the pot.
